NHCE to Host 48-Hour International Hackathon ‘Smart Horizon 2026’


Bengaluru: New Horizon College of Engineering (NHCE) will host Smart Horizon 2026, a 48-hour international hackathon, from September 3 to 5 as part of its Silver Jubilee Year celebrations. The event is being jointly organised by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).

The hackathon is designed to promote innovation, interdisciplinary problem-solving, entrepreneurship and stronger collaboration between academia, industry and government. It is also aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, encouraging students to develop technology-driven solutions to real-world challenges.
Smart Horizon 2026 has attracted a strong response, with 287 teams registering initially and 118 teams qualifying for the Grand Finale.

The finalist teams represent 62 institutions across 11 Indian states, along with participation from the United States, giving the competition an international dimension.

The hackathon will focus on five broad areas: Agriculture and Rural Development, Health Technology, Defence and Space Technology, Smart Cities, Vehicles and Automation, and Financial Technology.

A key feature of the event is the participation of government and industry partners. The finalists will work on 35 real-world problem statements, including 12 submitted by government ministries and 23 from private organisations. The initiative also encourages participants to develop solutions that are sustainable, scalable and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The competition carries a total prize pool of ₹23.75 lakh, with prizes across different domains as well as travel support for participating teams. A panel of more than 19 jury members and domain experts from government and private organisations will evaluate the projects on parameters including innovation, technical excellence, feasibility, scalability, social impact and presentation.

NHCE, an autonomous institution known for its academic and research initiatives, is accredited with NAAC ‘A’ Grade and NBA Tier-1 and has been placed in the 151–200 band of the NIRF rankings. The institution has also received a Diamond Rating from QS I-Gauge and a four-star recognition under ARIIA. Its research ecosystem has produced more than 170 patents and over 1,000 Scopus-indexed publications in recent years.

Through Smart Horizon 2026, NHCE aims to bring together students, researchers, educators, industry representatives, government agencies and startups on a common platform to foster innovation and collaborative learning.
